Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are delighted to let you know that your son/daughter is being afforded the opportunity to become a real published author!

Kilglass National School, in association with the Emu Ink Schools’ Publishing Programme, is about to embark on a really exciting initiative which will culminate in the publication of a school anthology.

Over the last few weeks, your son/daughter has been engaged in a creative writing process to support him/her in producing a short story or pieces of poetry. This process for the middle and senior classes includes elements such as brainstorming on possible topics/themes, story starters, character development, story mapping, plot, suspense/twist, point of view, editing, proofreading and submission for publication. Your child will also be creating artwork for possible inclusion on the cover of the book.

As the children dream ideas inside their heads and speak their writing on to the page their imaginations are flowing and these budding story tellers and poets are crafting their very own masterpieces.

At home, you can encourage your son/daughter along this journey by sharing your enthusiasm for the initiative and supporting your child as he/she engages in the various stages of the process.

We hope to have a book launch of the publication in the school in March. Prior to that date, you will be invited to pre-order copies of the book at a cost of €10 each. You will be provided with more details nearer to the event.

Thank you for your continued co-operation.
