BLAST is a Department of Education funded Arts initiative which is delivered through the ECSI education centre network and Sligo Education Centre.
BLAST stands for Bringing Live Arts to Students and Teachers.
We are delighted to announce that following our successful application, submitted last October, Kilglass NS has been awarded a fully funded 20-hour BLAST Artist in residency opportunity via the new BLAST Arts in Education Residency Programme 2021/2022 .
Our school has been partnered with the artist, Karen Webster and Ms. Brogan’s Rang 3 will commence working on our BLAST residency in the third term.
The basis of the residency is that through collaboration with Karen Webster, Rang 3 will plan for and create a mural suitable for a blank wall in our school yard that will portray our connection to the local environment, heritage and history and express that visually and in a suitably creative/artistic manner.
Situated as we are on the shores of Killala Bay, in the shadow of Knocknarea and named as we are after a local saint, Naomh Moghlaise, we envision that our project will draw on these deep connections to our local geographical and historical environment.
The artist Jack B. Yeats was born locally in Enniscrone and we envisage that learning about his artworks, techniques, drawing style and responding to his paintings and artistic style, will enhance our completed mural project.
We envisage that our project will draw upon and bring these deep connections to life for our pupils/school community in a meaningful, vivid and accessible manner, embodied in paint and displayed on the wall in our yard.
