Sports Day 2026

Junior Infants – Sixth Class enjoyed a sport filled day led by Sligo GAA, our teachers and even some past pupils. The kids loved all the stations and the teachers even joined in with some games (who can resist dodgeball). It ended with our annual Tug-of-War competition with our Sixth Class vs The Teachers as the main event.

A big thank you to the rain for holding off and we are already looking forward to next year!

Fifth and Sixth Classes have loved taking part in Say Yes to Languages with Julien. He introduced the students to French in a fun and engaging way, and the students looked forward to their lessons each week. We ended our block with some traditional French pastries, a quiz and certificates celebrating our success. We look forward to continuing our new tradition next year!

Students across the school enjoyed taking part in print workshops with Rebecca. They created their own prints, worked on spreading the ink and created print and ‘ghost’ prints. Thanks so much to Rebecca for an amazing day!

The NCCA – National Council for Curriculum and Assessment – is the statutory body responsible for advising the Minister for Education regarding all matters relating to curriculum implementation, change and assessment.

At present the NCCA is focused on  supporting  primary school teachers  in implementing the Primary Language Curriculum/Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile. As part of this work the NCCA are developing examples of children’s language learning in a variety of school and class contexts.

Ms. Brogan  was approached by the NCCA, in January 2025,  having being nominated as a suitable candidate, and asked if she would consider a request to being filmed teaching a Gaeilge lesson in her class.

After consideration, she consented to this request, as it would support, help and assist teachers in a practical manner to implement Gaeilge in the context of Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile.

This  involved  Ms. Brogan working with the NCCA to develop an example of children’s language learning by sharing their experiences of planning with Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile (Primary Language Curriculum), choosing appropriate learning experiences for their class and the demonstration of learning by children in the class.

These examples were  captured by the NCCA in the form of video clips and photographs, which are hosted on www.curriculumonline.ie.

Each video is accompanied by a support information document which was written by the individual teacher with the support of NCCA.

All examples were developed and published in line with the GDPR policy of NCCA.

It is hoped that these examples of practice will showcase high quality teaching and learning experiences and support other teachers in using Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile.

Filming took place over two days last May which resulted in  two video clips from Ms. Brogan’s  room available  now, live on the NCCA website.

The first video features Ms. Brogan and her current Rang 3 and Rang 4 showcasing an approach to teaching Léitheoireacht na Gaeilge/Irish Reading  through Scéalaíocht/Storytelling.

The second video focuses on the importance of Gaeilge Neamhfhoirmiúíl/Informal Gaeilge as a vital component of  teaching and learning Gaeilge ó Bhéal/Irish Oral Language.

It was an honour, personally and professionally, for Ms. Brogan and her then Rang 2 and Rang 3 to be considered for this NCCA filming.

Ms Brogan was  delighted that as a teacher in Kilglass NS, she could  contribute to supporting other teachers and schools with the teaching of Gaeilge in Ireland.

Our New Library

A big thank you to Childrens Book Ireland for our new library books. We are sure this is just the beginning and it has been amazing to see the students engaging with the books so far and being so excited. Watch our video to see the process so far!

Congratulations to our girls and boys teams who represented at the FAI 5 A-Side Soccer and the GAAmigos this week. All our teams represented the school with great skill, pride and determination.

Congratulations to the boys who progress to the next round of both the GAAmigos and the FAI 5 A-Side competitions.

Celebrating Kindness

As part of our Bí Cineálta policy students across the school created certificates to celebrate kindness. This term we will focus on celebrating the kind words and actions carried out by our students on a daily and weekly basis. Congratulations to those noticed for being especially kind and check back weekly to see updates. Also, a big thank you to our amazingly creative students for creating such beautiful certificates which capture the magic of kindness.
