Over the last number of weeks, Fifth and Sixth Class have been completing a series of lessons in a project called Something Fishy, in conjunction with the Central Fisheries Board. Sarah from Inland Fisheries Ireland spoke to us about various types of fish who live in our rivers, explained the role of Inland Fisheries and answered all our questions. Last week we put on our wellies and went down to the Leaffoney River to investigate. We calculated the flow of the water, observed the effect of the water as it erodes the banks and bed of the river and felt the silt that was deposited on the river bed. We had lots of fun.
